Both the ZDX and Equinox EV have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The ZDX has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Equinox EV’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Acura ZDX achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Chevrolet Equinox EV has not been tested.

Both the ZDX and the Equinox EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Acura ZDX is safer than the Chevrolet Equinox EV:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Acura ZDX is safer than the Chevrolet Equinox EV:

Warranty

The ZDX comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Equinox EV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The ZDX’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Equinox EV’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Acura vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Acura 11 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

For better stopping power the ZDX Type S’ brake rotors are larger than those on the Equinox EV:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the ZDX has larger standard tires than the Equinox EV (265/50R20 vs. 245/55R19).

The ZDX A-Spec’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Equinox EV’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the ZDX A-Spec has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Equinox EV. The ZDX Type S’ 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Equinox EV.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires standard on the ZDX can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

The ZDX offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Equinox EV’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the ZDX’s wheelbase is 5.5 inches longer than on the Equinox EV (121.8 inches vs. 116.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the ZDX is 2.7 inches wider in the front and 2.6 inches wider in the rear than on the Equinox EV.

The ZDX Type S handles at .85 G’s, while the Equinox EV RS pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The ZDX Type S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3 seconds quicker than the Equinox EV RS eAWD (25.1 seconds @ .75 average G’s vs. 28.1 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the ZDX has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Equinox EV (7 vs. 6.4 inches), allowing the ZDX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Passenger Space

The ZDX has 10.1 inches more front hip room, .4 inches more front shoulder room, 1.4 inches more rear legroom, 15.6 inches more rear hip room and 2.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the Equinox EV.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the ZDX’s rear seats recline. The Equinox EV’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The ZDX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Equinox EV with its rear seat up (29.7 vs. 26.4 cubic feet). The ZDX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Equinox EV with its rear seat folded (63 vs. 57.2 cubic feet).

Towing

The ZDX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Equinox EV’s (3500 vs. 1500 pounds).

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Acura service is better than Chevrolet. J.D. Power ranks Acura 6th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 10% lower rating, Chevrolet is ranked 13th.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors optional at extra cost in the Equinox EV, the ZDX Type S has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The ZDX’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Equinox EV’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

The ZDX’s standard Keyless Access System allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Access standard on the Equinox EV doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the ZDX to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The ZDX’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Equinox EV.

Both the Acura ZDX and Chevrolet Equinox EV offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The ZDX features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Equinox EV’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The ZDX has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The ZDX has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The Acura ZDX has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Chevrolet charges extra for Homelink® on the Equinox EV.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Acura ZDX has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The ZDX Type S has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
